L’Escargot is one of the great typical French restaurants that is really worth trying. Found in the 1st district,  38 rue Montorgueil (Metro Etienne Marcel) you will find yourself in what one can only describe as a lovely old fashioned Parisian bistro.

Menus start at €24 and go to €73 beautifully comprised of starter, main course, desert and wines. L’Escargot was opened in 1875 and served snails in every recipe possible. In 1919 a certain Mr André Terrail bought the restaurant and decided to turn it into one of the best restaurants in Paris. Now-days you will find it beautifully decorated with period features and the fast unfriendly service that these types of bistros are famous for. On the menu you will find steak and chips, apple tatin and all the regular French dishes. I recommend trying the “Blanquette de Veau” beautiful tender cubes of veal slowly cooked in a cream sauce over the open fire!.

This is another young and trendy restaurant where you can eat a three course meal for €11.80! . The restaurant 25 Est is situated in the 19th district at Villette area (Metro Jaurés or Stalingrad) set in the old harbour originally used for cargo vessels bringing their goods to one of the old main Paris dock yards.

Here you eat mainly French cuisine, and there is also a good selection of wines, sold by the glass of or bottle. They have a jazz night once a week and new talent art exhibitions.

There are also two terraces over looking the harbour one of the terraces being on the roof, where you will find reclining deck chairs so that in the summer you can sit with a large glass of Chablis and watch the world go by. 

This is definitely worth going to if you are in the area. The restaurant is located very near to the “Cité des Sciences” (Science Museum) which I recommend you visit too and more info on the museum can be found in any ordinary guide book.

Let me tell you a bit about this restaurant, it was created in 1896 by two brothers Frederick and Camille Chartier built in an old station hall near to all the best shopping areas in Paris at that time. The restaurant is open 365 days a year and the idea was to provide a choice of cheap fresh produces at affordable prices. The restaurant has recently been added as one of Frances national monuments.

The food is good giving you a great deal of choice at a very reasonable price. Starters as cheap as € 2.50 for a fresh vegetable soup and a main course steak and french fries for € 8.50 excellent value, I really recommend this restaurant.

The smallest street in Paris is called ‘Rue du Chat-qui-Pêche‘ (The Fishing Cat!) which is 29 metres long and 2.50 metres wide. It was opened to the public in 1540 and was originally called ‘Rue des Etuves’ and then shortly after renamed ‘Rue du Renard’. In 1832 it received it’s new name and was shut to the public by two huge cast iron doors that have since been removed.

The road can be found at n°9 quai St Michel 75005 (Metro Saint Michel) and finishes at 12 rue de la Huchette 75005. If you walk from up the road from the quai you will find yourself in a small road (rue de la Huchette) which is full of small Greek restaurants that specialise in kebabs, here you can buy a kebab served with french fries and fresh salad and a soda for € 5.50. If you fancy eating here, firstly walk from one end to the other and check out the one you like best first!.
